Our Kona Location

Mango Sunset Bed & Breakfast Inn is just ten minutes (five miles) from Kona International Airport and Kona Town at 2,000 feet above the Kona coastline on the slopes of the Hualalai Volcano. Our guests love our location not only for the breathtaking view, but also for the cooler than Kona temperatures and less rain than to the south of us. Innkeepers Hans and Marsha Eckert

Six generations ago, Marsha's folks, the missionaries David and Sarah Lyman, arrived from Boston on the Big Island - in 1832. They founded the "Hilo Boarding School for Boys" and built the first wooden house. Our "Lyman Farms" is named to honor Marsha's family. After living in Los Angeles, New York or Europe for decades, we came to Hawaii, bought eight acres of jungle and built our Bed and Breakfast Inn and Lyman Kona Coffee Farms from scratch. As hosts, we live in the Inn with our daughter Karen (the "farm manager", now three) and our cat Buddha.

Map & Directions

Please print the directions and bring them with you. We are very easy to find just off Highway 190 near mile marker #33, Mauka, meaning Mountain side. From Kona International Airport follow the signs as you exit the airport property to Highway 19 then turn RIGHT (SOUTH toward Kona). Within half a mile you will make a LEFT (EAST) at the first traffic light at Kaiminani Drive. Go up the hill a few miles to the end of Kaiminani and you will find Highway 190. Turn LEFT (NORTH) and go 0.3 mile to a large green mailbox on your right with our number on it 73-4261.

At this point you will notice two parallel driveways right next to each other and ours is the one on the LEFT (northern most, the one under our large sign). Follow it all the way up. Punch in the posted code at the gate, then proceed to our Bed & Breakfast Inn. Stop near the entrance to check in and unload. After that, park facing the ocean in front of our two-story green barn.
